Before reading: I had never heard of this before I found a new list of Stephen King's work to follow and this one was included. I found it online for free and just from what I've seen I'm quite intrigued. There are several installments in this piece and they are published together but I will read them separately as they were released. Together they are called The Plant: Zenith Rising. The second one actually comes up very soon. Here is some information about it from Stephen King's website: The Plant was published in six installments and distributed through Stephen's web site as an e-book on the honor system for payment. The novel has not yet been completed. If the inspiration does return, at some time in the future this project will be completed but the format for its publication may be different." From what I've seen this is an epistolary written as a series of memos. Also, people seem to really like this one. I saw a lot of comments on the page begging for more installments to be released. Well, I'm intrigued! And hoping I can read it in one sitting since it is quite short so hopefully I'll be right back...
After reading: 30 minutes later and I'm back! Talk about a quick read. And pretty much all I have to say is that I'm hooked. I already feel like I'm going to be crushed when I read through all of them and don't get an ending. Hopefully inspiration strikes and King will come back around and finish this one. Now, since I make the rules I've altered how I'm going to read these a little bit. I'm going to read the first three installments like this as they came out, then I'm going to read 4-6 together afterwards because I can't really seem to figure out when those ones came out. Then once I've finished all 6 I will rank it as a whole. That being said, so far so good!
This was quick and short but I am already in it. The premise of this story is that Carlos is trying to get his book published by Zenith Publishing and two workers for the company, John and Roger, are discussing it. Immediately I was intrigued by the book that Carlos is trying to publish. Also, come page two I had already laughed out loud and physically cringed. As this installment was finishing I literally said "whaaaaaaaaaat?!" and want to read the rest of this thing immediately.
I am hopeful that the rest of this story will be as great as the beginning. I don't want to recommend it yet since I haven't finished it, but if you'd like to go ahead and read it then I say go for it.
We are back on track now and up next we are reading Cycle of the Werewolf and then we get to read part two of The Plant. Yay!
