Before reading: Finally! I read the first two parts of The Plant back in July. It is Thanksgiving break now. I am excited to read installment three and then from here I am just going to finish the rest of this unfinished tale. Also, I noticed that this one came out TWO YEARS after the first one, so I guess I should consider myself lucky that I only had to wait four months. I don't want to wait any longer so let's get going.
After reading: I apologize for the lack of content for this one but there isn't too terribly much to say. This one was a bit longer in comparison to the previous two, but it was much less fun. It definitely seems as though one and two were the more meat and potatoes set-up, this one was the more boring character development set up, and then we are going to get into the thick of it in the next three installations. While this one was still a good read, it lacked the absolute bonkers crazy-factor that the other two had. This one was a bit more serious in tone. I'm sure it is setting up our main character, John, to just be in a very low point of his life as we enter the actual climax of the story. I definitely think that reading them all together is the way to go about it. Perhaps, if I had read them all the way through, then this one might not have felt as lackluster.
One thing I really appreciated about this one was that there was a recap at the beginning. Considering he published this one two years after the other two, I can only assume it was easy to forget what was going on. I had only read them a few months ago and the reminder was a huge help. There was also a fun little Thinner reference that I might not have even noticed had I not read it directly after. While not much happened in this installment, I am still on board. I'm excited to see what all happens next. I'm also scared that, since it is unfinished, I'm going to end up feeling unsatisfied.
Because I can't find the exact publishing dates of the last three installments but can gather that they were published in the 80's, I'm going to go ahead and truck through those next while we are here. I, for one, am hoping for the best!
