Actually Reading the Book I’m Named After (And All of Stephen King’s Other Work)

Before reading:  Another one that I didn't know existed until I looked up a list of Stephen King novels. I am super excited for this one because we get a new genre...fantasy! I can't wait to see how King makes this genre his own. Also, it is set in the same realm as The Dark Tower  series so I'm hoping we get the same feels as we got when we read The Gunslinger (still have to read 5 more books before the second DT  novel...not that anyone is counting). Let's go! After reading: Well, I didn't get  Dark Tower  feels or even Stephen King feels for that matter. This was a strange read. I almost don't have anything to say about it. It took me a while to read but I did enjoy reading it. However, it felt so...out of place? It was like it was almost trying to make fun of fairytales or be so very cookie-cutter fairytale that it came off disingenuous? I'm not sure. It was written like how a high school student writing a fantasy story for a class assignment would write...

Before reading:  We are into the thick of it, gang. From here on out it's a bunch of big hitters and some of King's most famous pieces. Now, not only have I not read Pet Sematary  but I also haven't seen either of the movies. I'm not really sure why, it just hasn't happened. So while I am aware of what the story is about generally, I don't actually know any details. I know this is one of King's bests and I'm very excited. Also, I have a weird connection to this one. Stephen King wrote this based on how many pets he would see hit by cars on the road that he lived on. Well, my dad happens to live on that road. I very recently visited my dad for a couple weeks and like a complete and total creep, I might've parked outside that house a few times. Before reading : I'm excited to see what happens next and am glad I'm able to do it in the same day that I read installment one! I'm curious to see if we'll finally get to read about the plant, considering it is the title of the story. I am also bummed that I'll have to wait a while before reading the rest of the installments. Well, without further ado... After reading: It is taking everything in me not to just read this whole thing. It is crazy and I'm here for it. I really appreciated that this one began with some background information. Most of which you are able to infer but it was nice to have a clear backstory to understand more of where the characters are coming from. This is great so far and I'm quite confused as to why it remains unfinished. I literally, out loud, went "oooooo!" when I read Carlos' letter to John. Before reading:  Another one that I hadn't heard of until reading King's list of work. Apparently I'm a fake fan. I didn't even know he had a werewolf book...assuming this is about a werewolf. We haven't had a traditional monster take from King in a while so let's see how this one goes! After reading: Stephen King was apparently in his super short story era. While this is great for me cause I can read multiple books back to back, I do know some of his more well known books are coming up soon and they are chunky. That being said, this was another quick read and very short story. Not sure this could even be considered a novella, it was so short. I almost wish it was a little longer but I think for what it was it did the job.  This book was set up in calendar order and went month by month on each full moon and told the tale of this werewolf. I had considered looking up the full moon dates of that year because a lot of them happened on holidays so it was quite funny...

Before reading:  I had never heard of this before I found a new list of Stephen King's work to follow and this one was included. I found it online for free and just from what I've seen I'm quite intrigued. There are several installments in this piece and they are published together but I will read them separately as they were released. Together they are called The Plant: Zenith Rising.  The second one actually comes up very soon. Here is some information about it from Stephen King's website:   The Plant was published in six installments and distributed through Stephen's web site as an e-book on the honor system for payment. The novel has not yet been completed. If the inspiration does return, at some time in the future this project will be completed but the format for its publication may be different."  From what I've seen this is an epistolary written as a series of memos.
